Okay, I gave in and will be posting on this blog again. I like this format better than the facebook one but I have a lot of followers on FB that I do not have here. Oh well, the egotist in me says post me work everywhere!  :)

Piggy 2

Jumping right into the second of this series. I had planned four but knocked it down to two. I want to change directions a little after this. I am not happy with the results of working on the newspaper but am willing to give it one more try.

This is the watercolor layer. I tried leaving more newspaper uncovered to keep the piece lighter. Next up, acrylics.

Piggy Done

Just finished the first of this series. I'm not crazy about this piece but I can't put my finger on why. I stopped at this point because I didn't want to overwork it and make it worse. And, of course, there have been times where I wasn't happy with the piece and it ended up being a fan favorite. I hope this will be one of those cases.

Watercolor added

As I was adding the watercolor to this piece I remembered why I stopped working on newspaper. I hate it! The paper sucks up the watercolors and dried my brush quickly. It is difficult to work with. On the up side I think this looks pretty good. I was on the fence about stopped here and calling it done. But I think the addition of acrylics will make it better.

Pigs

Since my farm animal pieces are proving to be popular and I enjoy working with them, I am going to stay with that theme for the moment. I was looking back at my paintings on newspaper and liking that look so here are some more. Two paintings of pigs.

First I use matt gel to glue the newspaper on canvas board. Then I sketch out the image in pencil. Then I ink. Next I will add watercolors then acrylic.

Cow

Back to charcoal. This was my second attempt at a cow. The first one went horribly wrong and ended up in the trash.

Sponge Onion

This is the fourth and final of the onion series. TI did the inking as usaul. The color was watercolor and acrylic and applied with a sponge. I think I started overworking this one and so stopped here.

A Third of Onions

Here is the third of this series of four. I turned out very different than what I had envisioned. I was going to make this one more monotone and drippy. I couldn't resist all the wonderful colors in the onions.

This is 5" x 7". It is simple but I like it.

Well, I am back to my old style.  A series of 4. Step one, the inking. I inked all four at once. I will then paint them individually to completion.

Candle Sticks

It took me longer to set this up than to draw it. I love these candle sticks and go to then often. I wanted to put something in the bowl that would be interesting and came up with this.

Another day, another charcoal piece. I'll probably do a few more charcoals and then venture into inks.

It has been a really long time since I created some art. I thought I would start flexing my art muscles with some charcoals. Here is the first attempt.

RCB #4 Final

I really struggled with this one. I got to a point where I disliked it so much that I was going to toss it. But never say die is my motto and I kept at it. Now I am happy with it. This is 13" x 13" on cold pressed watercolor paper.

And now with color

I added the first layer of color. I was pretty happy with it as is and even contemplated calling it done. But then on a second look I thought, no, much more to do.

Here is the start of the last RCB series. Just ink at this point drawn with the ink bottle cap eye dropper.

RCB #3 - The Start

Back to my old tricks. Heavy with the ink. This was drawn from the eye dropper in the ink jar top. While the ink was wet I roller a bottle top through it,a tooth brush a wet brush and sprayed some water. A whole smorgasbord of techniques to make this mess.

RCB #2 - the end

I called it quits before I over worked this one. I only used watercolors which is rare for me. 13" x 13" on watercolor paper. I mostly used a sponge in painting this. A little brush work towards the end.

RCB 2 - The Beginning

Well hurricane sandy took me out of action for a while. We lost power for a week. A large tree fell next to our house and crushed our fence. But we are lucky that was all the damage.

I started the next piece in the RCB series. So far I am only using a sponge to paint. I want to add more detail to the face so I will probably kick over to a brush for that.

RCB 1

Well, it took a little longer than I hoped it would, but it is all done now. I was starting to enter the world of overworking but was able to stop myself. This is 15" x 20" on watercolor paper. Watercolors, ink and acrylics were used.

A little more

Got some more work done tonight. Though I am happy with it so far, it is a little boring.

Hey, I'm back

After along hiatus I am back in action. All the flames of War minis are done and put away and I got the paints back out.

I am starting with a series of 4 chicken birds. This one started with a pencil sketch, then I took a razor and scratched the surface. I did the fist layer of paints and decided I like the razor scratches and want to add more once this dries.

I finally finished off my Sherman Company. Added some weathering and a wash of agrax earthshade.

Sherman Update

I have been working hard and am getting close to the finishing line. I still need to add decals and a devlan mud wash.

A plethora of tanks

All 30 tanks are done and now painted matte black. I went to the hobby shop with my son and played three games. Shermans (me) against T-34s (Vince) I lost all three games. I need to work on my strategy.

Bodies done

I finished the Sherman bodies tonight. I am pretty happy with the way they turned out. Now I have to finish up the turrets.

Flames of War

I have not been painting. My son and I took up a new hobby, Flames of War. It is a world War 2 miniatures game.  I bought 15 Shermans and it isa ton of work to put them together. Then comes the fun part of painting them. Busy, busy, busy.

Charcoal

I know I have been inactive lately. I just have not been finding the time to be creative. I did steal away today for a couple of minutes and did this quick charcoal.

Red

Alright, here it is all finished. This is 11" x 15". I'm glad I went with the darker background.

I changed my mind

I wasn't happy with the watercolor so I touched it up.

Update

The watercolor portion of this painting is done, on to the acrylics. For this series I didn't want to use acrylics but I have changed my mind after the last painting. It just seemed to lack something.

Blondie

One done and three to go. I'm trying to keep these bright and fresh and simple. I have been getting a little tired of the busy acrylic additions.
