The beginnings of a window

On to my next piece. 11" x 14" I adhered the newspaper to canvas board. Then I did the ink drawing. The second image is with watercolor. Acrylics up next.

Landscape - finished

I have to admit I dragged my feet on finishing this pice. I wasn't sure where I wanted to go with it. I finally forced myself to sit down and work on it. I know it is not a terrible exciting piece but I am happy with the final results.

11" x 14" newspaper mounted on canvas board. Started with an ink drawing then added watercolors and acrylics.

New Landscape

I have not done many landscapes so I thought I would give on e a try. To make it more difficult I am working on newspaper that has been mounted on a canvas board. I know the first step doesn't look like much now but the end product should be better.

Sunflower - Finished

Here is the final result of the sunflower painting. It is 11" x 14". I believe I have achieved the happy sunny day feeling I was going for.

Sunflower

After that dreary pear I wanted to do a bright happy painting. I settled on a sunflower. I am working from this picture that I took.

I am working on an 11" x 14" sheet of masonite. I had a painting teacher a number of years ago who wouldn't let me use a brush. I had to paint with a palette knife. So I decided to use that approach on this piece. The first thing I did was cover the masonite with a 50/50 mixture uf burnt sienna and lemon yellow.

I wanted a neutral complimentary background so I mixed a grayish purple for the ground area.

Yeah I know, it is not very gray. I am still trying to keep it happy and bright. Next I added some sky.

And now for the main show. Still only working with the palette knife I started to add the sunflower.

The image I took is not that great but you get the idea. So far I am really happy with the results.

Pear

Here is my first painting in a long time. I have been wanting to try only acrylics. I'm not that happy with this piece but it is a start. I think it is a little dreary and doesn't have much pizzaz.

Zazzle

It has been a while but I have started painting again. I also fixed up my zazzle store. Here is a link if anyone is interested. Zazzle

Round One

I added the first round of watercolor. This is where I start to get a feel for what direction I want to go. Right now I feel directionless. I'm not sure what my next move will be.

Face

I started a new piece last night. I am going to try something a little different but pretty much the same with this. I have a direction in mind but who knows where I will end up with it.

Young Blue Eyes

All done. 15" x 22" on cold press watercolor paper. I little different than how I normally paint. I kept the brush strokes choppy looking rather than blended.

It has been a while since my last piece so I did a quick charcoal tonight.

Sheep - Step 1

I'm trying something new with this sheep piece. I put down this base color and then I am going to add charcoal. I didn't like the way the watercolor paper took the charcoal last time but I don't give up easily.

Finally

It took a long time but I finally finished this pice. I'm not all that happy with it but I can't quite put my finger on why.

Second Sheep

This is the sheep I am going my more traditional route of ink and watercolor. this is step one,  the inking.

Ink/Charcoal Sheep

I wanted to try something different so this piece I inked first then added charcoal. I used cold press watercolor paper. Not a good surface for charcoal. I am not happy with the results but at least I tried and I can now stop thinking about this combo and move on.

Piggy 2

Okay, I gave in and will be posting on this blog again. I like this format better than the facebook one but I have a lot of followers on FB that I do not have here. Oh well, the egotist in me says post me work everywhere!  :)

The pigs on paper are all done. On to sheep.

Piggy 2

Jumping right into the second of this series. I had planned four but knocked it down to two. I want to change directions a little after this. I am not happy with the results of working on the newspaper but am willing to give it one more try.

This is the watercolor layer. I tried leaving more newspaper uncovered to keep the piece lighter. Next up, acrylics.
