We went to old Sturbridge Village over the weekend. We stayed overnight in a hotel. So I had a choice, get up really early and paint that day's lime or.... bring the lime with us. I opted not to get up early. So here is the lime with the room's complimentary ice bucket and glasses.

Took my son to a haunted house at Lake Compounce last night. Didn't get home until real late so I had to do a quickie conte crayon lime. I have a coaster balanced on a yogurt cup for this one.

Yes, after lime 84 my daughter hacked and carved and finally sawed through the lime. I almost have to get out the power equipment. Cutting the lime was planned a long time ago. We were going to do it for lime 80, but my daughter wanted a few more days of the "easy lime".

1/4 sheet hot pressed fabriano. I did the rapidograph pen work first, then added color.

A nice family portrait. You can tell we have had it with the lime. Ink done with the eye dropper. Watercolor added.

Lime 83

11" x 14" canvas board. It is acrylics. I painted it with a palette knife and scraped into the paint with a jigsaw blade. Before I started I had a vision of the finished product. This does not look like what I envisioned so I didn't really like it. When my wife saw it she liked it a lot. Upon further review I now like it too.

1/4 sheet hot pressed watercolor paper. Going clockwise from the upper left. Conte Crayon, Watercolor and Ink, Acrylics and watercolor. You may not realize it but hot pressed watercolor paper is not the ideal surface for conte crayon. Ain't so great for acrylics either.

Lime 81

This is an acrylic painting 11" x 14" on canvas board. I really didn't have much in mind for this one and wasn't very motivated. It was kind of bland and I wasn't happy with it. Then I had the great idea of painting over it with very light colors and then scraping into the paint with the end of an acrylic paint tube. Now I'm happy with it.

I did this one on yupo paper. I did a little gesso work first, but I don't think it made much of a difference. It was a little different working on the yupo that had been gessoed, but I don't see much difference in the end result.

1/4 sheet cold pressed arches. (the last of my cold pressed arches. Cold pressed fabriano from here on in)
I did the watercolor first, then glued down the newspaper. Then I added conte crayon.

I did the ink part with a brush. I did everything else with water color.

The bricks were done in watercolor. The rest is in acrylics. 1/4 sheet cold pressed arches.

I made a grid with masking tape. Then I drew the lime in ink with the eye dropper. Then I painted away with watercolors. Let dry, then peal tape. I like the idea but I am not so sure about this piece. My wife thought that thinner tape lines may have looked better.

When we started the 100 limes project my daughter counted out the days and picked the start date. The day we started lime 100 would be on my wife's birthday. Well her birthday is in 18 days and we still have 28 limes to do. Seems like she miscounted. Lime 90 will be on my wife's birthday.

Lime 71 was inspired by a famous artist. I cut the lime out of foam board and used it as a stamp. Done in acrylics on 12" x12" stretched canvas.

I used a piece of masonite I had gessoed a long time ago but never got around to using it. I glued newspaper down first, then painted with acrylics. I got to opaque so you don't see much of the newspaper. Maybethat is a good thing.

I got to thinking, I've done so many of these limes that I can do it with my eyes closed. So to prove my point, I did lime 66 with my eye closed. No kidding.

I taped the watercolor paper to my drawing board. (eyes opened for that) Then I filled the eye dropper with ink and before I had my hand to the paper I closed my eyes, got a feeling for the center and drew the lime with my eyes closed. Then I mixed the paint on the brush and before the brush left my palette, I closed my eyes and painted with my eyes closed. I did this over and over. I did the entire painting and even signed my name with me eyes closed.

I am amazed how well it came out. I can really paint a lime with my eyes closed.

Lime 65

I am left handed. Therefor I paint left handed. However, for lime 65 I decided to see what all the hub bub is about being right handed. Lime 65 painted entirely with my right hand, including the signing of my name.

Remember way back to lime 42? I said I didn't achieve what I set out to do. Well this piece is closer. I was trying to get a drop shadow on top so the lime looked cut out. Oh well, can't have everything.

I do like the cool effect on the outside. I sprayed the wet ink with water and it pooled around in cool shapes. I did the same with the color.

No holds bar on this one (is that the proper quote?) First the ink with an eye dropper. Then I blotted around with a paper towel. Then I threw sea salt on the wet ink. I would not recommend it. The salt dried into the ink and it was hard to get out. Plus it didn't have the desired affect.

Then I painted and splattered watercolor on it and threw on some more salt. Done....Lime 63

I got this idea from a doodle in my sketchbook. Yes, I have been doodling limes! Anyway, the ink is one continuos line. It looked cooler in the sketchbook. This piece is not so great, but I guess they all can't be winners.

Back to watercolors. For this one I started by scratching into the paper with a razor blade. I added paint ad threw on some sea salt. Then added more paint (left the salt on) and pushed the pigment around with the razor. I also scratched some more.

This one was starting to look good, but then I overworked it. Then I ran out of time and had to call it a night.

This is a total rip off of a series HarvestMoon has been painting. I see her post's over at the wetcanvas watermedia forum I have admired her work and thought I would give it a go. She has been calling the series Wowie Zowie. This is my daughter's favorite lime in the series.

Another landscape lime. I guess I am getting tired of this route and it shows in this piece. I had a hard time getting into it. The usual 1/4 sheet fabriano hot pressed paper.

Another in the sports series. This was an image from the strongest man competition. I had thought about a soccer scene with the players kicking the lime, but decided against it.

Woo hoo, half way there. Now the long slow march to lime 100.I did the inking with the eye dropper. Then I splatted watercolor on the paper then dabbed with a sponge. Then, lo and behold, my daughter said I could post her piece.

We went to the bank where she got 50 pennies. She glued them to bristol board in the shape of a lime. Then she panted with acrylics.

You guessed it. It was my birthday. And what better way to celebrate my birthday than to paint a lime.

I started this with the ink drawing. I splashed watercolor down wit ha lot of water. Then I took a tube of acrylic paint that had a very serrated edge and dragged to color around.

My daughter made a birthday card for me with.... can you guess? Limes on it. 42 limes on the front and number 43 on the inside. That would be my age for those of you counting at home.

I went to a friend's house to watch the New York Giants opener. I didn't have much time for a lime painting afterwards so I went with conte crayon. I think I captured the football spirit well.

I wanted to do another pen & ink landscape with the lime strategically placed, but I didn't have enough time. So I did the old stand by of ink with the eye dropper and splattered and dripped watercolor.

I did this from a reference photo. I just added my own twist. I did the inking with a rapidograph pen. I wish I had more time to do a better inking, but I just didn't have the time.

Lime 45

Third in the newspaper series. I decided to splatter the gesso this time. I loaded up the paint brush with gesso and let it rip. Not only did it splat in my face and on my clothes, but across the desk up the wall and over a picture that was hanging. Oops! I guess because the gesso is so thick. I changed into my painting clothes and held a newspaper behind the canvas, then let it rip again.
